Style Rule #4: Use accessories wisely & often

To score great style on the cheap, I always turn to accessories and pay attention to the styling of the look.

It can all make or break an outfit, and let me show you Who Wore It Better:

Jennifer Lopez paired the same dress with a black top and a belt, and made up for the nude-ness of the dress with some knee-high boots.

It toned down the look of the original dress so it became a flirty piece.

Pamela Anderson on the other hand, should have paired it with knee high boots, as it is quite a tiny little pieces.

The fringe-y style also overpowered her body.

A thin belt would have done wonders.

When in doubt, err on the side of simple & conservative.

Less is more!

Nicky Hilton pulled it out with bare legs, keeping the shoes simple so that the attention wasn’t pulled away from the dress.

The dress already had long sleeves and a wild pattern.

The clutch was also over-sized instead of being too small and strange, when held against the outfit.

Same dress, two different styles.

Scarlett wore it better with cool sunglasses, her hair up so you could see the neckline & detail of the dress, and paired it with delicate heels.

Like Marilyn Monroe meets Cool.

Gwyneth killed the dress by leaving her hair down, distracting from the dress.

The shoes were also platforms, and too clunky for the sweetness of the dress.

Victoria Beckham definitely wore it better.

She looks chic with her Hermes Birkin, and with the dress already having long sleeves, she didn’t need anything underneath.

She also belted it to give it more shape as a dress, rather than to leave it like a tunic top, as Lindsay did.

Lindsay looks like she’s wearing bicycle shorts underneath the $1 tunic she picked up in Chinatown.

While Victoria made the dress look expensive.

Even hair can make a difference.

I get two different looks just because of the way they wore their hair, up or down.

Up feels more chic and polished.

Down, makes it feel more casual.

The dress overpowered Nicole’s tiny frame. She also didn’t have the correct bra in place to hold up the dress, as Jennifer did.

Jennifer looks sweet with her clutch, and Farm Girl meets City Chic styling.

The shoes on Nicole are also too clunky, and wrong for the dress, because it’s more of a sundress that screams for a pair of sandals.

Jennifer made it look chic.

Nicole made it look like a bargain basement piece.

Sarah Jessica Parker rocked otu the look, simply by wearing open toed shoes.

They made a huge difference in the Alice + Olivia dress, versus those strange clodhoppers on Emma Roberts that have no place being paired with that dress.

SJP was also smart enough to keep it clean up top, and pair it with chunky bracelets instead.

Emma wore earrings, that just got lost. And the bracelet was too delicate for the feel of the dress.
