Getting down to the wire: Gifts for the Stylish Geek who is kind of Girly too

As someone who is a geek who likes to be in the kitchen, as well as dress stylishly, perhaps my “Want List” would be of use to anyone still scrambling to find THE gift.

And without further ado:

1. GADGET CARRYING CASE

I especially want one for my iPod, but it could be for her Kindle, Laptop, Camera, Netbook, you name it!

Acme Made’s Slim Cargo – $99 to $199

Sleek, stylish and practical.

It is a high quality bag that has wonderful compartments, and is made out of the most delicious fabrics.

LUG’s Taxi Tote – $55

Etsy’s BorsaBella – $25 – $60

That is, if you purchase a smaller gadget case cover or something.

ALTERNATES IF YOU ARE OUT OF TIME

You could always buy a cosmetic bag in a pretty fabric and let her use it to carry her gadgets.

Or check out your local Best Buy or Future Shop and you’ll see a ton of bag options for cameras, laptops and other things.

2. A GIRLY APRON

This is a funny choice, but a great gift for someone who doesn’t already own an apron.

Even if she isn’t a regular baker or cook, having an apron helps a lot when you’re doing the dishes and accidentally squirting the soap all over your nice dress (true story).

BellaBeeDesigns on Etsy – $25 – $36

The bright colours and pattern mixes are fun.

Etsy – GreenAppleAprons – $33.75 to $36.75

But if you want something a bit sexier, and more hostess-appropriate, these are sweet.

Etsy: perdoozy – $29-$32

And for something even frillier like a dress, the styling of these are gorgeous!

3. EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES

They certainly aren’t sexy, but they are highly practical, useful and loved by geeks around the world.

See, no one thinks about backing up their most precious digital photos, music or videos.

But when they lose their data, they cry like a baby and get really, really, angry.

(See: Carrie Bradshaw when her Mac died on her)

I suggest a portable one that can be powered by USB, so you don’t need ANOTHER set of wires to plug in the device.

Plus, they’re cute and small.

I own no less than 7 external hard drives. No joke. :) And I am running out of space on them too.

I only have one recommendation here: Western Digital. THE best brand in hard drives.

I have one from 5 years ago that I have dropped countless of times, and it still runs.

Western Digital – $100 – $200

The good news is that they come in different colours!

The price depends on how much space you are buying.

The 1TBs are the most expensive, being the newest hottest item, and the 320GBs are the lowest I suggest you go.

Here are the 1TBs for $250

(I have seen them in Silver and Black so far)

Here are the other sizes:

They come in more colours like blue, red, silver, black and green.

I haven’t seen the whole range, but apparently this is it:

4. E-BOOK READERS

I love reading books, but I hate carrying out a heavy hardcover or ruining a paperback.

Something sleek, light and portable is always on my list as a must-have.

There are many options out there right now, but the most popular ones are:

The Amazon Kindle 2 – $259

The Sony E-Reader PRS600R (R for Red) – $299

My preferred choice, as it comes in red, white or black and is totally screen-based

The Nook by Barnes & Noble – $259

(Er..totally sold out, but you could put her on the waiting list for it)

5. NETBOOK

I own the HP Mini 1000 and I love it.

HP Mini Series – $300 – $400

But the other brand I heard positive reviews about:

Toshiba NB200 – $400

6. TIGHTS

You could go basic and simple with these HUE Coloured Tights

(I own the dark purple pair and I love them!)

Or go with lace tights (also available from HUE, but click on the image for the sources)

7. DECORATION FOR HER GADGETS

GelaSkin does it best.

It’s like a removable, peel and stick cover for the cover of your laptop, netbook, iPod, iPhone, etc..

The price depends, but is under the $50 mark.

Thanks for passing on the love: :D
