A Strategy for Starting an Outfit

These are my 4 questions when thinking about an outfit:

  • What will I be doing? Shopping? Just coffee? Walking a lot? Going on soft grass?
  • Who will I be seeing? Friends? Colleagues? A date?
  • Where am I going? Casual cafe? Posh restaurant?
  • When is this all happening? Early morning? Lunch? Dinner? Late, late, late?

Then I pick whether I want to wear a dress, skirt or pants, and the rest falls in place based on the questions above.

So for example, let’s say it’s just a simple pair of silver ballet flats.

Like this pair from my closet by Joe Fresh, $7.

They’re slightly shiny, but not obnoxiously so.

They’re also super comfortable and a great way to add something to any outfit.

POLYVORE EXAMPLES

This would be my go-to style of oufit for most days and times.

A great jacket is just so easy to pull over anything.

I’d wear this if I was planning on shopping after, so it’d be easy to try on clothes.

I’d wear this closer to the evening, when I want to glam up a bit, but stay casual.

The item or element you pick can be anything.

A purse.

A pair of earrings.

A jacket you’ve been dying to wear.

A skirt.

A pair of tights.

The great thing about picking a starting point is that you get to wear what you really want.

And the rest of the outfit just follows the item you’ve picked out for the day to showcase.

How do you pick out what to wear each day?

Thanks for passing on the love: :D
