Oh beautiful bags.. how I adore thee
A beautiful bag or a purse can make your heart flutter.
But how many bags or purses have we seen out there with practical functions built in to the design that make the lightbulb over your head go: “Bing!”?
Not many.
Some of the bags shown below will be created with a specific purpose in mind — as a laptop bag or as a photographer’s bag, but they will all be beautiful.
The price tag however, is not so beautiful.
They can range anywhere from $100 – $250.
But wait!
I thought this was “Style on a STRING“, as in a shoestring budget?
The way I see it, is that you might as well buy a beautiful, functional, quality bag for what you need to do with it, and stop purchasing cheap substitutes that don’t make you smile when you reach for them.
Why?
Because you know, deep down inside, you know that the minute you find a beautiful substitute for that black ballistic nylon standard-issue atrocity you have been carrying around, you’re going to spend more money acquiring it.
So just buy it once and be done with it.

Available: Late January 2010 but you can pre-order one now.
It’s really quite well thought out.
And this is perfect for a photographer, but if you can remove and adjust the compartments, you could customize it to be any kind of bag you want.
Or keep the compartments and use it to separate your cellphone from your wallet and all that.
Beautiful purple colour. This is the one I’d buy.

This was the original “organized” bag with hard, built-in compartments.
It’s for women who like to carry it all.

It has a laptop area to hold 13″ or under, and a great paper/magazine area on the back of the bag.
And it comes with a little pouch as well.
What I like best are the zippers on the sides for a cellphone and other items.

For the Gym Rat or Traveling Weekender

It’s spacious roomy, lots of pockets and incredibly light.
It even has a clear-coated bottom for easy cleaning.

Puddle Jumper for $75
This one is great for the gym.
Style on a String is a blog about style, not fashion.
And style has nothing to do with money.
Being chic on a budget is possible when you know what works for you, and only take inspiration from trends if they'll work for you.
