I own a pair of UGGs.
I promised myself when they first came out, that I’d never wear those ugly boots.
Never. Ever.
No matter how warm and comfortable they may be.
But then I caved.
I saw girls running around, looking unusually perky and happy.
They all seemed to be thrilled to have WARM FEET (mine get unusually cold, you see).

So I bought a pair.
I was thrilled with how comfortable they were.
How soft, how……. erg, they’re ugly and have no place paired with otherwise chic outfits!!!
I wore them out ONCE with sweatpants to check the appeal of looking like a college slob, and felt too comfortable, if that made any sense.
I didn’t feel like I should be in public wearing those things on my feet, in baggy soft sweatpants.
I mean really, to feel like an actual fashion citizen, I shouldn’t have Teletubby feet.
So I never wore them out in public again.
When winter came around, I popped them on inside the house, and am in love with them now.
They keep my feet super warm without socks (socks make me slip).
And they are COMFY in the privacy of my apartment.
Then I found out that it is exactly where and how you’re supposed to wear them!
At home and inside.
They’re just not suited for wet, icy, cold, snowy weather.
So please, if you own UGGs.
Consider that they should never be seen in public unless it’s a rare, experimental occasion.

I love my Uggs. Living in Massachusetts they have been a life saver during winter storms. They always keep my feet warm and dry, and whenever I wear them I always get compliments on them. I can totally see how they could be compared to teletubby feet though lol!
The real Uggs are too expensive for indoor use only. I own an indoor Uggs-style sock/boot from Old Navy for $15, and they are comfy enough. I bet lined ones would be even better though…
Good point!
Indoor usage totally makes sense! I haven't given in yet but their wedges are admittedly pretty cute!
Their rugged winter ones and the structured wedge ones are pretty awesome actually.
This post made me laugh! I too caved in when these things came out and I wore them incessantly because of all the "girls" sporting them around town. I slowly but surely realized – GOSH, these things are NOT FLATTERING whatsoever. I too, have delegated these shoes as slippers and to go get the paper. Great post!
*phew* I'm not the only one
They sure are comfy, but not good for ice and snow in winter…
I love it! I only wear my Uggs inside as well or in may car after work, not to my car or from it, only IN it! Great Post!
In the car after work is a good place too. I can’t imagine really wearing them out IRL (anymore)
HAHA I love this. I've been telling my friends this for years. Mind if I share it with some UGG-loving, UGG-wearing-outside-of-the-house people?
PLEASE DO!
i think they look horrendous but am fine with them for indoor usage, they are simply a boot form of slippers. And slippers should never be worn outside of the house. Never Ever.

Indoor usage is where I'm sticking with them.
I think they look awful when worn outside, unless it's foggy and snowy, and no one can see anything.
Or if there's a fire and it's all you have on your feet.
lol great post (lol at tele tubie feet) they are great for indoors
And only for indoors!
I couldn't agree more with everything you wrote here. They're an indoor-type shoe and certainly comfy. But who wants to walk around in public with teletubby feet?
Exactly!!! Some fashion limits please
I got a pair of knockoff UGGs at Costco for $34.99 last week, after years of resisting. They are the same australian sheepskin/suede/shearling lining. They are sooo comfy but I do not wear them in inclement weather. I always hated to see people wearing them with sweatpants in college, ick. I will definitely limit how often I wear them in public… they are not very attractive!
They're truly hideous. But so comfy and warm
I don´t like those but totally understand why people wear them…it just looks super comfy…I own a pair of crocs and love to wear those too
I tried crocs, but they hurt my feet after a while.
Birkenstocks work the best for me.
they just work when it's freezing out xo
I haven't tried Uggs but they sure look super comfy!
i still don't own a pair of ugg but i can feel myself going over to the ugg side. i can see it as comfy day boots.
"the ugg side" like the dark side?
Haha great post. I'm not a big fan of Uggs, but I don't like to criticize girls who do wear them.
Each to her own, I guess. They do seem comfy and if I had a pair, I would wear them in private, just like you. Those ones worn by Kate Hudson are actually pretty cute. I wouldn't mind wearing those around the house on a lazy day!
I swear by them to keep my feet warm!!!
Sadly, I wear my UGG boots in public on occasion. For several years, I lived in Wisconsin, and in the winter, the streets were a slushy, grimy, gross mess of snow, mud, trash, sand, and salt. The UGG boots performed wonderfully; not once, were my feet ever cold or wet, and the nasty just magically disappeared as it dried to the boots. That said, I just did a post on my blog about needing a new pair of cold-weather boots and not wanting another pair of UGG boots. : )
Really? The nasty stuff disappeared?
It doesn't seem to disappear on other UGG boots I see. All that blue and salt seemed to soak in and create streaks…
No streaking on mine, I have the light natural tan colored ones! I waterproofed the suede when I first bought them (about 5 years ago). I finally threw them in the washing machine about a year ago, and they came out looking almost brand new. Of course, I'm pretty good about drying out winter boots between wears, so maybe that helped.
That is incredible.. no streaking
But you seemed to have taken very good care of them.
I don't own UGGs, but after having been working outside on a shoot all night last night I am seriously considering getting a pair.
They're SO comfortable and warm. They're worth it if you don't mind looking like a chic Teletubby.
I suggest wool socks if your feet are very cold however.
