About Me & the Blog

StyleString_AvatarHi!

I’m Serena, a lover of all things fashion.

I am the girl who doesn’t order a salad in restaurants to stay skinny for fashion, and I have been known to eat Nutella right out of the jar.

As for my favourite colour, well. I just can’t pick one, so I pick a group that goes together.

Right now, it’s a deep inky purple, dandelion yellow, teal and cobalt blue.

And my mind changes every time I get inspired.

CherryBlossom

My favourite flower of all time is the cherry blossom and it is one of my dreams to visit Japan during the sakura season.

I love the shows: “Sex and the City”, and any reality show dealing with fashion or style, like “What Not To Wear”, or “Project Runway”.

My philosophy on style is to develop whatever feels best for you, but also looks the best on you.

Seems like everywhere we go, we’re constantly being told what’s in fashion, and what we should wear and buy to look stylish.

But all these media sources cite expensive designer brands, and never really feature clothing items from mid-range to cheap, affordable lines.

I am all about inspiration, not dictation.

To me, it’s super easy to go to purchase the look if you have a ton of cash…

…. but as a girl who doesn’t have a ton of cash to spend on fashion, it takes more creativity and skill to replicate a similar look on a budget.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to buy a new designer anything, let alone every season!

I think that we should just work with what we’ve got, and make the most of it.

My 5 Personal Style Rules

  1. Don’t wear all black
  2. Stick to your style “uniform”
  3. Shop your own closet
  4. Use accessories wisely & often
  5. Don’t be an overly trendy fashion victim

About “Style on a String”:

coffeeFashion is all about designers and logos.

So I’m here to focus on style. Specifically, providing inspiration your individual style.

It isn’t about what’s en vogue right now, or what people say you should wear to be fashionable.

We should be stylish, not “fashionable”, and everyone’s personal style is different.

We need to stop wasting so much money on trendy items that won’t last.

And if we really love a certain trend (even if it’s leggings), we should figure out a way to work it into our personal style without looking like a fashion victim (wearing leggings as pants, is a fashion crime, y’all).

Please feel free to poke around the page, and if you want, send me a note using this contact form!

Thanks for passing on the love: :D

About the Author

Style on a String is a blog about style, not fashion. And style has nothing to do with money. Being chic on a budget is possible when you know what works for you, and only take inspiration from trends if they'll work for you.
